V6 differential question

Not quite sure if this is the right section for this or not, but I'm in the process of building a turbo 3.4 setup in my '91. Rear end is a non-LSD. My question is, can I use a V8 differential, or even an aftermarket differential for a V8?

I'll be shooting for 250ish N/A whp (big cam/aluminum heads/tune), 300ish whp after the turbo setup, and I really do not trust my stock, 18 year old, peg-leg diff. to handle that, so, I guess what I'm really asking is, what's my best course of action here? Can I replace just the differential without replacing the entire rear end? Say, for example, I bought an Auburn 12 bolt differential, a good buddy of mine has one with ~5k miles on it he'll let me have for $200, 3.23's, could I put that in place of my stock differential, or would I need to replace the entire rear end?

Re: V6 differential question

v6 and v8 rear ends are the same. Some have different gear ratios and some are LS, but they are the same strength. The '91 that you have will have the 28 spline axles, which is stronger than the older 26 spline axles. You could just install a new Eaton posi in the rear end that you have with some new bearings and it would be good.

Awesome, I'll check into that. Thanks for the information.
