...when I'm doing 30-35 mph. With the 2.73 gears that would be nowhere near redline in 1st. When I hit it at that speed I get a real dead spot and no real pick up because the RPM's are so low in 2nd. I don't seem to have this prblem from 3-2 (but I'm already doing 70 mph anyway) Is this normal for this transmission or not? If it's not downshifting as it's supposed to what could be the problem? Is it easily fixed? This flat spot is really p*ssing me off...

Note: the stock rods and hangers are still in...

While this evil thought of punching it crosses your mind, rip the stick all the way back.

Otherwise, get a corvette governor assm and put it in your trans. (or change springs/weights)

Some 700's can't kick down by shifting it.

Any other ideas? I seem to remember this car kicking down at 10 mph or so faster and now it's not. I though it must've been my imagination but the car shifts to second at a much higher speed if I start off in 1st. It's really frustrating because I have no clue.

It used to? Ok, something must be out of whack then. Did you check the tv adjustment? If not maybe its internal (a valve hung up)

How do I check the TV adjustment? How would I know it's right?

Go where it hooks to the throttle body/carb. Push the metal (d shaped) pad in while sliding the cable housing all the way back. Get in the car and with the motor off, gently press the gas pedal to the floor. You should hear a click as the cable ratchets out. It will be properly adjusted now. Try this... hopefully it will solve the problem. Also press on the bare cable (extending it) and make sure it springs back into the housing. If not, something got disconnected/broke in the tv plunger part.
