I hear these stock 26 spline axles are fairly weak, but because of my cash defficiency disorder I may just get my SLP zexel torsen HD and hope my axles hold until I can buy new ones.


should I even risk it?

what's the worst that can happen if i snap an axle? is it possible one will go on the highway or only on hard launches?

I was thinking I would get a girdle, the SLP unit and anti-shock gear oil, and then later get my axles and drag radials.

My current BFG radial T/A tires aren't very sticky, at least they don't seem to be with my open end, but i'm hitting 104mph onelegged.
with some tunning I wan't high 12's

is my plan do-able or simply a stupid one?

 

You can't order the zexel posi unit unless you have 28 spline axles. The unit won't work with 26 spline axles.

If you do break an axle, you run the risk of the wheel falling off and nasty things happen. From what i have heard is that the ring gear will break before you snap axles.

I don't see any huge problems with using those tires.

Find some used 28 spline axles or get some aftermarket ones, then you won't have to worry about the axles, just the gears.
