Why the low Shift?
Why the low Shift?
I have a 92 Camaro RS with the 700r4(pretty sure) It's an automatic, and if I punch it, it shifts in drive at 3500 rpm's. I heard that means my tranny sucks and is shot. I'm getting a new 350 HO engine this summer, and the last thing I want is to have to replace the transmission right away. What is wrong with this thing?
Before you condemn this trans try to get the TV cable adjusted correctly. Once you have done this try it out & let me know what happened? Yes, you have the 700R4.
Hope This Helps!!!

I'm not really considering dropping the trans until I know for sure that it doesn't work anymore. I'm gonna keep it as long as I can so I can get enough money to get the gears and a new trans at teh same time.
I was thinking about it, and my car redlines at 4500 RPM's, so 3500 isn't bad for an automatic really.. If I floor it(don't like to floor it unless I'm racing i.e. gas prices suck *** ) I saw it go p to 4000, where the tach gets yellow, so I don't really think anything is wrong. Who knows, I'll look into the TV cable adjust.
Thanks

Hi probuilt automatic, I just overhauled my engine and got it back installed and since everything is back together my tranny won't shift right and I had this overhauled about a year 1/2 ago. I've taken back to the shop that did the overhaul and they've been working with me on trying to correct problem but still not running that great. they've readjust the tv cable 2 -3 times and then this last time they opened the tranny and found a bad valve body and replaced with a different one and then they readjust the tv cable and man they did a bad readjust and now I trying to readjust it myself and shift a little better but from 1-2 shifts I guess O.K. but then I get another shift pretty quit this is between 18-23mph (right after 1st shift) then the next shift at about 36-40mph and then O.D. about 50mph the shifts are not that smooth. they have a little jerk to them. I understand that they shouldn't be soft but firm and smooth. any idea what else it can be I'm still trying adjusting tv and probably will take back to shop again.
