shortened driveshaft for LS1 T56?
After doing much searching around...I am unsure about this answer.
I am going to use an adaptor plate to bolt this to my 406 (with T-5 bell and hydraulics)...but I didn't seem to find an answer as to how driveshaft length would be impacted.
I am putting together final budget #s for this swap and would like to know if I need to budget for driveshaft work.
Any input from someone who has used the LS1 T-56 behind a Gen 1?
Thanks!

No one has done the LS1 T56 swap?
Am I to assume that it is the same as the LT1 T-56 swap...which uses the stock 4th gen driveshaft?

Bellhousing position doesn't change from one engine to another. The engine will always sit in the same location unless you deliberately move it somewhere else. Since the engine position doesn't change, the only thing that will affect the driveshaft length in the swap will be the transmission length.
Playing with the diff or rear suspension can also change the length. You can always guess at a length but even if someone tells you a rough length, it may not be exactly the same for your car.
Driveshaft length is measured by sliding the slip yoke into the transmission then pulling it back out 1". Measure from the center of the u-joint on the driveshaft yoke to the center of the yoke on the differential. That's the driveshaft length.

That makes sense. I am buying an aftermarket T-56 swap x-member from Spohn and it would stand to reason that it would work with either the LT1 or the LS1 trans. I will call them to verify that before I place the order though.
Thanks.
Thanks.

PM or email member twilightoptics.
He's got an ls1 t56 behind a 355 with some sort of adapter and standard t5 scattershield. Drive shaft he used was I believe 3/4"-1" shorter.

OK...thanks for the heads up...I will PM him. I know that the aftermarket T-56 is longer due, in part, to the adaptor. This requires a slightly shortened torque arm (stock only) and I thought a shorter driveshaft as well.
I ran into some reference to TPI TERR as well. Not sure if he did the swap though.

I wouldn't buy an after market mount. you will only end up hacking it. Just have one made or weld one up. The driveshafts about 1 inch shorter due to the spacer adding around 1''
