Pilot Bearings, what a PITFA!!!
Pilot Bearings, what a PITFA!!!
I want to kill everything I see whenever i deal with the pilot bearing. Wading in grease for 1 1/2 hour is no fun and of course I see no progress. Any tips on how to do this better than jamming it full of grease and knocking it out?

use a puller, takes about 5 minutes to get it out and new one back in.

Pullers for pilot bearingas are junk..so is the grease trick.. especially if the engine is still in the car.
Cenetpunch two spots on each side of the pilot bearing then take a 1/4 inch drill to the bushing. Be careful with the crankshaft part, but you'll see when you're close to it. Progressively go larger in bit sizes until the bushing is able to be helpd(pried) out with a screwdriver.
Good Luck!

nick i don't know where you buy your pullers at but mine sure isn't junk. snap-on A78, 118 dollars in the catalog now, i paid around 70 i think, near 20 years ago. it pulls pilot bearings and other small bearings in blind holes with little effort.
