Talk to me about Torque Converters..

I'm getting ready to jump up my converter for various reasons and I need help selecting one. I've already decided that I'd like around a 2500-2800 stall or do you think I need a bigger one? I'm running a 350 with a cam that has .300 lift and 224 duration int/exh and I'm also using my quadrajet wich has been modified. My camaro has a beefed up 700R4 that can take any abuse I throw at it and it delivers it's power to a set of 3.73's in the rear. The engine is putting out around 355 hp and I'm not sure where the torque is but my guess is that it's higher than the horsepower figure.

I've done some research on these and I've heard good things about the Vigilante converters as well as TCI and the ol B&M. I dont want to spend a whole lot but I do really need this converter and I also need it to be reliable.

Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated...

You don't need a converter that big for that cam, IMO. get one a little bigger that whatcha got now unless you plan on putting a bigger cam in later... I would think 2000-2200 should be fine/max for that cam/axle ratio combo...

I am planning in the future of going to a bigger cam but that wont be for a year or two. Maybee 2200 - 2500 ??? I dunno, what brand would you recommend?

I would go with the Vigilante 2,600-2,800 rpm stall torque converter, or an equivilant ACT torque converter ($550.00). They both are lockups. The 3.73's along with the cam you mentioned like the higher stall with lockup, and if you go to a larger cam (additional 10 degrees at .050 lift) this TC should work well. I am a distributor for both of these TC's.
Hope This Helps!!!

FWIW, Precision Industries gives you a free re-programming of the stall speed for 2 years.
