What is a TV cable

I'm new to the message boards and was wondering what is a TV cable and what does it do.

It what brings shows to your television.

LOL

Seriously, it is the Throttle Valve cable. Another name is the kick-down cable. Yet another alias is the detent cable.

It is connected between your throttle and the tranny. It allows the tranny to "sense" when the engine is getting floored and to downshift.

A true TV Cable is for transmissions such as the 200-4R and the 700-R4 that do not have any other input as to throttle position.
On a tranny such as a 350, there is a modulator that sends a vacuum signal to the trans for this purpose, plus a Kick Down Cable fo the part throttle 3-2 and WOT forced downshift.

not to mention that an electronically controlled transmission such as the 4L60-E does not have a TV cable but instead a solenoid. (more good ol useless trivia)

Actually several solenoids, but then it wouldn't apply to a question about TV Cables!
