Average rebuild price for 700R4

Hello,

I recently bought an '88 Firebird for parts and the 700R4 has somewhere in the neighborhood of 180K on it. I drove it before I stripped it and gave the tranny a workout (power braked it, drove it fast as hell in reverse, and floored it from a dead stop) it doesn't seem to have any obvious problems, but the last thing I'm going to do is put an old tranny behind a freshly rebuilt engine. So what would I be looking at pricewise if I were to take it to a shop (out of the car) and get it freshened up?

Thanks,

Matthew C. Hall

That differs between each shop... "cost" for stock rebuild parts is about $250 - without labor, and I'm betting you don't want a stock rebuild kit in there. At least you'll be saving a few hundred by removing/installing the trans yourself.

About $800-2000, depending on what you want done, and if you bring it in, or if they remove it.

I had a stock rebuild done on my 700R4 last year and it ran me about $900 with a new converter. I removed and replaced the tranny myself and took it to the shop...

I had my tranny rebuilt with a new converter and it ran me $1500. That was with me bringing them the car. They did all of the work.
