Do I need to change my flywheel to swich to a T56

I have a 84 Z-28 that I converted from a LG4 305 auto to a 355(350 .030 over) and a borg-warner T-5. I am looking to upgrade to a T-56, but all the tech articals say I need to swich the flywheels, wich would be inpossable because I have the old style 2-pice rear main seal wich uses a neutral ballanced flywheel and the new 1-pice rear main (86&up) use a counterweighted flywheel. Any suggestions.

If you're gonna use a used tranny out of an LT1 car, yes. The gearset for most of the 94-97 cars has a 2.66 1st gear and a .50 OD.
Otherwise here's a tranny that works. Same gearset as the '93 LT1 tranny (2.97 1st, .62 OD). It's drilled for a T-5 bellhousing.

Note: Scoggins Dickey sells it for much less.

This was just a better description.

McLoed and Centerforce make flywheels for a two-piece rear main seal engine and a T56. They run between $250-$300. You will also need a T56 specific clutch. Check out SLP, Star, or Centerforce.

If you are going to put alot of HP buy a bob wier bellhousing and hydrolic throw out bearing. Then you can use what ever flywheel you want. You can also get rid of that crappy clutch set up that comes with the T56.
