Transmission: TH-700R4
Axle/Gears: GM Axles and GM 3.73
makin noises when i floor it in first

hey i gotta th-700R4 tranny
and i went to the strip today
and i was usin it like a manual and then after a while when i would launch the tranny(or something) would make a clunk noise and it made my car shake.......does anyone know what is wrong.....please i need help!

Sounds like a busted transmission mount. One of the easier, cheaper transmission problems to fix.

im glad to hear that...i was afraid i messed up my tranny on my first time goin to the strip......but ya it only does it when i take off in first....like i can go down the road and it will b fine....and i could even floor it in D or OD and it will b fine....its just when i go from the start

Mine did the same thing. It only did it when it shifted really hard or when I jumped on it at slow speed. I thought the tranny was toast but it was just the mount.

I agree that it's probably the mount. One word of wisdom though -- if you are generating any kind of torque, or if you drive hard you'll be replacing the stock type mount all too often. So don't just go buy a stock replacement, spend the extra $5-10 on a polyurethane mount. I must have went through at least 2-3 stock replacements in a summer, but I've been cruising for a year now on the polyurethane one. I got mine from summit, I think it's a Prothane brand.

hey i went to www.summitracing.com and i checked out tranny mounts
and i saw the ones by energy suspension and they come in different colors
would you by chance know what those different colors mean and which one would b best to use for my application??

The colors are just for decoration (for those who admire their trans mount daily)

Both the energy and prothane brands are interlocked so they can't seperate. I'm sure you'll rip the treads out of the trans case before breaking these mounts.
