My parents old 88 has 3.08 gears. You could probably order what you wanted, so it will vary. GM made some astro vans with a 4 cylinder, I would guess they had deep gears. S10's are another excellent source for used gears.

Ok, I just pulled the cover and here's the numbers I got off the big gear. BM OR 3M-14085339-12:41-7-5/8-12-84 do these mean anything? Is there a gear ratio in there somewhere Thanks.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
I learned how to figure this from one of the guys here. The 12:41 is the amount of teeth on the gears. 12 on the pinion and 41 on the ring gear. Divide the ring by the pinion and that gives you 3.4166.... That would be a 3.42. The 7 5/8 is the diameter of the ring in inches, and the 12-84 means it was cast in Dec. of 1984. I think the rest is just the casting #, I'm not sure on that. The 3M is probably that it's a 3 series carrier, but I'm guesing, so don't hold me too that.

Cool huh? I learned so much from this website already, my brain is boiling.
