Backup light and neutral start Problem

Backup light and neutral start Problem

Guys i hope someone can help me out
i have an 82 Firebird and i have a problem
my car starts in P and R but no in N like its supposed and the R back up light turns on near the P . I think something is out of position but if it needs adjusment how can i do it please help me. thank you

Take the shifter **** and console top off. To the right of the shifter are 2 screws through slots that hold the starter/backup light switch. Loosen but don't remove the screws. With the shifter in reverse, slide the switch back and forth until the switch is in the middle of the range where the backup lights come on. Tighten the screws, shift into park and neutral, making sure that backup lights go off and the starter works.
