Stouter output carrier/planetary gears? - Probuilt - know anything about this?
I've recently added an 2800-3200 stall convertor to my tranny setup and am having some problems. Since putting it in I destroyed 2 sets of output carriers and the planetary gears.
The tranny has been modified extensively and the only things breaking are the hard parts mentioned above (clutches and band look brand new).
This tranny has always shifted really hard (I'm talking rock you back in your seat and bark the tires on the 1-2 shift). The break occured both times on the this shift and only started after putting the convertor in(tranny was in the car for 1 year with a 2000 stall convertor prior).
I've broken 2 sets in the last 3 weeks and I'm currently taking off in 2nd gear unless really pressed to accelerate.
Does anyone make a stouter output carrier/planetary gears set?
Any help is much appreciated!

Are you breaking the low/reverse planet and ring gear, or just the ring gear? Are you breaking the planet where it connects to the output shaft or are you breaking the planet off in just the back section? What year is the unit? The extremely hard 1-2 shifts don't help. I have only seen one ever break (in Art Carr trans). Need more information to help out? What type of valve body kit? Etc.?

Probuilt,
I have a TCI full manual valve body, that came with a better servo.
The output shaft that fits into the sun gear cracked the first time and caused the planetary gear carrier(???) to crack to. It looks like it swelled causing it to crack.
The second time the output shaft broke completely off (I think-I'll have to go look) and there was some other damage.
I have all the parts I broke. I will try and get some pictures of the damage and post them or e them to you if that is needed.
I tried to call you a couple of days ago, but the line was busy. I've since lost your #. Thanks for any help.

It's 11:30 here and I've been up since 5AM. I just re-read your response. I'll try to put together a better response on what I've done to this tranny tomorrow when I'm actually awake. It is an '89 tranny, but not the origional case - had a problem with mine and a TCI shift improver kit that caused an incurable 2-3 slip. Replacement case with my old internals got rid of the slip.
Some info on the replacement case:
It was brought back for late/firm shifts. Since I was using a full manual valve body, I wouldn't have to worry about late shifts. I'm thinking that with my internals the firm shifts got a little more extreme.
Oh yeah, it's not the low/reverse planetary set, it's the other one. My Haynes tranny manual calls it the input carrier set, while my friend (tranny man for the local Chevy dealership) calls it the output carrier set.
