Rear making noise

My rear is making a noise that sound sort of like a truck with high knobby tires going down the road. I orginally thougt it was the axel bearings so I replaced them, but it turned out I was wrong. I feel it could be a pinion bearing, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance...

Yes it could be pinion bearings, it could even be front wheel bearings.
If it does it worse when accelerating or decelerating it's most likly the pinion bearings. It could also be the transmission but I doubt it, start with the easy stuff first. Have you greased your front bearings lately? I had a car I swore had a bad rear but turned out to be a front wheel bearing, thats the easiest place to start. Good luck .
