Need to know what Transmission I have
Hello,
I have a 1992 Camaro RS with a 3.1 V6 in it. I need to know what kind of transmission I have in it and how much torque it can handle. (automatic) Another thing, does anybody know if I can change my shifter **** from a top button one to a side button one? I have the new aftermarket side one waiting to be put in, but the problem is, I don't know if I need any major adjustments. Please write back

You have a 700-R4, also called the 4L60. In stock form, it should be able to handle pretty close to anything your 3.1 can throw at it after a few changes. If you're thinking about a V-8, you have to get another transmission any, the one you have won't bolt up.
As for the shifter ****, I'm not sure, but one from a Firebird that has the side button should work on the stock shifter. Personally, I prefer the top button, but that's just me!
