pilot bushing

has any one ever heard of having to machine a bronze pilot bushing down .60? my 64 327 needed this so i could fit it in, i destroyed two bushings before measureing it i had it machined and it fits fine is this a little strange?

I dimly recall there being 2 part #s for those, but I haven't run across a motor that actually used the other one for a long long time... I had about a 63 or 64 283 once, seems like it used the one that's now the oddball... seems like the difference was if your crank originally came set up for an automatic it wasn't completely machined for the stick bushing, hence the 2 sizes
