I have done a search before posting this and couldn't find anything to help answer my question. Anyway, I have a 1992 25th Anniversary 305 Heritage 700R4 that I am attempting to adjust the TV cable on. I am getting early soft shifts. My question is how far is the TV cable suppose to pull when the D button is released? Mine actually came all the way out of the front where you push the little tip to get the cable to release and I had to push it back in; than go WOT and get it to click. I did this twice but think that I messed up the D button and cable;....opinions? It shifts better at WOT but could be better. I have a new cable coming from TPIPARTS to replace it. I can move the cable assembly pretty easy back and forth in the bracket, and the TV cable is not really tight; has a tad bit of loosness. Any secret for the adjustment of the cable would be great...I don't want to ruin the new one.

 

wait until you get the new cable installed and try the adjustment again.
If you don't know then,read the tech article or search the (transfixleo) method of properly adjusting the tv cable.
I recently had the same problem on one of my cars and turned out that the cable I got from the local auto parts store was about 3 inches longer than the one I rec. from TPI Parts,which indeed turned out to be the correct one and have had no problems since.

Thanks I'll look at the instructions when I get the cable from TPI, also thanks for the compliment on the car. I have been working on it for a year now. That's an early picture when I bought it. Complete interior redo, engine, etc has been done since then. Once I get the transmission done right all that is left is repaint.

 

I got impatient and decided to review the instructions. I replaced the cable last year and thought why not adjust it per transfixleo. I did so and wow what a difference. It has a nice crisp first shift, normal second and so on. WOT kickdown is better also. Note: When I pushed the D button and the cable plunger toward the fire wall to release the cable, it did so; I then released the D button and went WOT at throttle body and wedged a long phillips screw driver into the linkage and pryed it between the air cleaner hose and the radiator hose to keep it WOT. Then I pressed the D button again and pulled back on the black cable housing using pliers until it stopped; released the D button and test drove. Man I am pleased. I will just keep the extra detent cable from TPIPARTS when received for extra. Lastly, To keep the detent cable housing from moving after adjustment; I took a black 8 inch ziiptie and went through the hole on the top of the cable bracket and looped it around the cable detent housing and secured it. It snugged it up nicely and should keep it from moving. Thanks for the great detailed instructions on the site. Thirdgen is the best. You saved me a potential trip to a tranny shop to get potentially hosed.

And by the way,I read your previous post,and I'll let you know now that the cable your getting from tpiparts does not come with instructions,well mine didn't anyway.

also,your paint looks good to me,whats wrong with it?

 

It has some minor dents and scratches over the entire body. The red Heritage stripes are missing from the deck lid, and are only on the spoiler. The front nose is also in bad need of repaint. I have a bra on it now to cover it. Over all it looks alright; I call it the 500 foot rule! Looks good beyond 500 feet. I may try and order the rear lid stripes, get the rear deck and bumper repainted with the front nose. That may get me by for awhile. The future remains to be seen.

 

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but what is the transfixleo method? I have a loose TB cable, and wondering how to fix the slack it has.
