If it's always done that since it was put in and isn't changing then it's probably OK. Just get used to it.

Some aftermarket gears make a little noise. No way around it!

Some people claim Richmond gears whine more than GM and some say it's due to the stronger tooth design. I had mine replaced with Richmonds when I found they were self-destructing after I broke my posi and I would have to use a lot of imagination to say that they whined. Maybe it depends how good the installation is. Dump the oil and see if it's turned dark grey from metal particles, then change it again after a few hundred miles to see if it's staying clean.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I just had to swap my rearend because it was whining though. Mine was whining when I was just barely rolling though LMAO! The one I have now makes a bit of noise but it sounds alright. If you are really concerned change the oil(already said) and if you are really worried I would get the pattern checked just to double check. The guys that did my last rearend shimmed it too tight I thing and the pinion seal weaped and now the rearend is toast.

I think thats just the way Richmond gears are. I have heard from several sources that Richmond sacrifices noise for durability (remember, they make racing gears, not gears for your grandmothers caprice station wagon).

I have installed Richmond gears on my car, and I would like to think I did a "professional" job. Backlash and tooth pattern are right on the money, and I get the "whine" between 30-55mph. I have put about 10,000 very hard miles on them with about 7-8 trips to the dragstip, and still work great. I wouldn't worry about it.
