clutch won't disengage

I have an 85 TA with the stock manual 5-spd (hyd clutch) it grinds going into reverse bad and shifts hard in all gears. when i go to stop with the clutch depressed i can feel the whole car shake until i take it out of gear. does anyone know what is the cause of this? what and how should i check? will this cause my clutch to burn out? thanks any help would be greatly appreciated

It could be the damper springs in the middle of the clutch disk, it sounds like they fatigued and broke, fell out and jammed up between the flywheel and disk, this happened to a friends firebird, it was doing the same thing you described.
