Reverse gear is being quirky
I have an interesting problem with my transmission. I don't think it is a major one though. I am not sure how to fix it either. When I did the swap I also pulled my tranny which is a T5 (not sure if it is world class) to make the installation easier. After I got it all put back together I tried to undo what I thought was the filler plug for the fluid. Turns out it was the Reverse Pivot. I tightened that back up after I realized my problem. However, while I can easily grab first through fifth gears without issue, reverse is another story.
Sometimes it slots right into reverse gear without any problems, smooth and it feels good. Other times it doesn't even want to engage the gear. However, after enough times of not getting into reverse, it will work fine for X number of times before it decides not to work anymore then the pattern starts all over again.
I am thinking the reverse pivot is the problem. Am I correct? If so then is there a way to fix it without going through the labor intensive work to pull out the tranny? I am planning on having the local mechanic fix it, because it is easier to do on a lift than on jackstands and a questionable jack.
Thanks for any input.

You may have popped off the spring when you mistakenly loosened the pivot.
Not really much you can do from the outside, you have to get the top off, and that requires the tailhousing to come off also..

CRAP!! Are there any other causes or is that the only one? I really don't want to pull the whole car apart again if I don't have to. It does easily click into reverse several times in a row sometimes so I am not sure if that might be the whole problem.

You can try one thing push down on the shifter slightly when engaging reverse. I have a 85 camaro with the same tranny and annoying problem. No unfortunately they are not the world class. I am not sure which year they started with the world class.
