lockup without a computer?
lockup without a computer?
first of all, what is lockup? my friends has his 86 iroc L69, hes gonna replace it with a carbed 350, he wont have the stock computer anymore, so with this affect the "lockup" on the trans as most people tell me? i heard they have a manual control for it in summit or jegs, but what the hell is it anyway? lol thanks!

Well... I would tell you what I know about lockup but I'm not real good with it to begin with but I'll try. ( I might look like a dumba$$ to someone who really know what their talking about though.) I think the TC acts like a centrafuge when your in high gear so less strain is on engine to keep you going at the same steady speed.
The good thing is I know about the lock up switch. Basicly it will allow your friend to lock up the TC in 4th gear by closing the switch, that's what the computer used to do. It's not that complicated but it sounds real confusing.

look in the tech articles section of this website. go to trans section and you will see a article on this.
I did this in my car which is not computer controlled anymore and it still locks. I did have to leave the computer plugged in for it to work. You will have to take the front cover off the dash to pull the check engine bulb out cause it will be on when all the sensors and wires are cut out. Just be sure not to cut the transmission wires.
