i have a 86 trans am with a 305 TPI v8 and i want to swap it for the t5 out of my 87(2.8v6)firebird. can i do this? is there a diff. between the v6 and v8 t5? will the t5 hold up behind the 305? what do i need from the firebird to do the swap? what will i need to buy new?

 

Its not recommended to use a V6 trans with a V8 engine. For one thing, the bolt pattern is different, the input shaft is different, and the clutch is different.

You need a trans from a V8 car. See the FAQ on this site in the transmission section.

A V6 T-5 will not work behind the V-8. The input shafts are differant.
