Those with fresh 700R4...how long between shifts?

I'm so frustrated trying to tune this car in. I can't get the WOT 2-3, so I've been stopwatching 0-60mph times after I make a change. It's been working okay to see differences in FP and timing changes. I've plotted out the data from my scanner and it shows a consistent .8-1.0 sec. between the 1-2 shift. The RPM's are at 5200 then drop to ~3400 1.0 sec. later before it picks up again. Please tell me a performance rebuild is going to make a world of difference. Anybody know how long you spend between shifts and how many RPM's you lose? I can't wait to get this thing rebuilt. Also, I was doing the brakes yesterday and with the rear on jackstands and car running I shifted to neutral and the wheels were spinning just like in gear. I think the torque convertor is shot...that certainly doesn't help my idling in gear with this cam either.
