speedo cable

Did any Camaro's use a solid single speedo cable? I have an 83 that has the mechanical cruise unit under the hood with the 2 peice speedo cable. the cruise has never worked and I would like to eliminate the mechanical unit to clean up the engine bay a bit. did some later third gens not use this? I would like to get a 1 peice speedo cable. thanks!

Early Camaros, perhaps 82-83, used a transducer which, of course, used two cables. Later Camaros eliminated the transducer. Some Camaros used a two-piece which was joined in the middle; some used a one-piece (that's what's in my 85). I purchased mine from the dealership.

Re: speedo cable

My 87 has a two piece cable. Maybe the replacements are one piece.

My 85 was an original one piece. I'm not sure if there's rhyme or reason for which of the latter two were installed.

Re: speedo cable

my 88 RS had the two piece cable. went picked up a replacement from oreilly's that was a single cable. was kinda confused, but the speedo worked once the new one was put in and FULLY connected (took me a week to figure out why my speedo would intermittently stop working when going over bumps).
