My 4L60E Conversion

I finally have everything working no thanks to the techs at TCI, Comp and F.A.S.T. I should mention that I did get some information from them but not what I really needed. Here is the low down on how I did it.

First I used the TCI transmission controller part number 377500, the TCI wiring harness 377502 and the Dakota Digital speedo box SGI-5 rev. C. I bought all the automotive wire and connectors from www.eficonnection.com to get the right color wires and hardware.

You have to use the 4L60E VSS with the 40 tooth reluctor to supple the correct signal to the TCI TCU. These two wires connect to the TOSS from the TCI TCU. From the VSS they are purple and yellow. They connect to the(TOSS) org/red and blk/wht wires on the TCI harness. I could not use the TCI supplied connector so I cut it off the harness and used the one I bought from EFI Connections to bring the wires together.

The brake wires. On the TCI harness it is a grey wire. I connected it to the the purple wire on the factory harness by the transmission.

The TCI TCU has an orange wire for the speedo output. I connected this wire to the tan/blk wire in the factory harness by the transmission.

The Dakota Digital box. I cut the tan/blk wire from the 7730 ECM. I extended this wire and put it on Dakota box speed input signal. Same wire as above. There were a pink/black and black/white wire by the ecm and I connected into those two wires to power the Dakota box. Pink/black to 12 volt power and the black/white to Dakota box ground.

On the 7730 ECM the purple and yellow wires at B9 and B10 were cut to their longest length. I extended the wires with the purple B9 going to sensor ground on the Dakota box and the Yellow B10 going to Out 3 on the Dakota box. The switches on the Dakota box were set to application #6 with one and four on. The others are off.

The TPS signal. I could only use the signal wire and the ground at the TPS sensor. The TCI TCU 5 volts would fight with the 7730ECM 5 volts so only the two wires were used and it works just fine.

Tachometer signal. Again I only used the org/blk wire to tie into the existing white tachometer signal. It would not work correctly when I hooked up the blk/wht wired that is also paired with it.

I did not use the rest of the purple yellow wires in the factory harness up to the 7730 ECU. They are there as spares and tied off.

My TCI TCU is mounted in the engine compartment by the brake booster. I picked up power and ground from wires in the area. Pink/black and black/white.

Physically with the transmission I used the tail housing off the 700R4 transmission as it has everything to hook up the torque arm. Everything else works just fine.

If I had had proper information from the begining this would have been a breeze.

Re: My 4L60E Conversion

I have to say I love this conversion from the 700R4 to the 4L60E. I can control every shift point. So far so good. This Saturday I will data log some wide open throttle shifting and adjust the TCI controller.

It has two shift schedules labeled A and B. For now I will have a street version for schedule A with a shift point of 6100 rpm. For the track I will have a B shift schedule of 6400 rpm.

For now I'm limiting things until I get my new motor installed that has an all forged short block and a better valve train for higher rpm. I expect the schedule B shift point to be 7000rpm and I will up the A shift point to 6400 rpm.
