Re: camaro rear end
Yup, 7.625", which is the same as a 7.5" just with a 1/8" larger ring gear. Parts interchange though, and when doing gears in a 7.5 you just install 7.625" gears as that is what is currently available from the aftermarket. The 8.5" 10 bolt was only found in 1/2 ton trucks in the later years. I am a fan of the 8.5. I built the 8.5s in both ends of my '87 K5 and they are stout, yet much lighter than a Dana 60 or GM 14 bolt. The rear uses full floating axels built by Warn, a Detroit Locker, 4.88 gears, and a TA girdle. The front uses 4340 Superior axel shafts with 76x u-joints, an ARB air locker, 4.88 gears, and studs in the caps. We'll see how they hold up to the new 383 and 38.5" Boggers, but I think they'll be fine.
