Automatic to manual
Automatic to manual
Hey, I justread the article on swapping an automatic tranny to a manual. It all looked fairly possible, but I didn't even see the computer chip mentioned. If it's geared for an automatic, wouldn't I have to buy a new chip? And if so, would it be cheaper to just buy a different car that already has manual?
you shouldn't need to change the prom or ecm. the only problem area might be if you have an eletric speedo. did you read the piece jester wrote? he got the trans from me out of an 88 and it went into a 91 (i think) with no major problems.

The only problem I had with mine is when you first start it you got to let it idle down before you go anyware or else your car will keep at 1500rpm when your driving, like if your slowing down for a stop light it will stay at 1500rps and the same if you have your cluch in untell you stop and let it idle down . So you start it wait 20-25 sec to let it idle down and the car will drive like a normal standard car the rest of the day.
Now why it does this I don't know but maybe one of the chip guys can explain this problemm that I have?

I just swaped my auto to 5spd last weekend and I'm having the same problem ! I was trying to find out what was causing it and was considering swapping chips, but if I'll try letting it idle all the way down first. I haven't had much time to drive it, had to pull it a day after because of no 5th gear and still haven't got the tranny back from the shop yet
Hopefully it will be done tommorow....

Mine did that too. I replaced the auto chip with a GM one for a manual and the problem disappeared.
