400SBC T56 questions

well, i am finally getting my 400 saturday. and i might have enough money in the near future to do a T56 swap out of a 94-97 f body. right now my car is auto. i have read a few web pages talking about the swap, but i was wondering what all i need and if it was even possible to do without spending over 1500. thanks for any replies. lil jay

the pedals are the only part u can really use from that car, and $1500 isnt too bad of a price range, just depends on if u can find all the stuff u need...

I am getting ready to do the swap now. There are a couple of guys local that have done it. I have the complete list of about everything needed. So far I have about $1800 worth of stuff, but a lot of it is new.

I'm using a ministarter I got from GM, i would think that would work. You'll need a custom flywheel for the two-piece RMS 400 block; i think mcleod or centerforce makes them.

If you want to include a clutch that is going to last more than a few days behind a stout 400/406, you better plan on spending atleast $1500 for the trans swap......

I think mine cost me around $1500, but I don't have a stout 400 in front of it. I used a stock LT4 pressure plate, stock LT1 flywheel, and a McLeod disc of some sort.

Re: 400SBC T56 questions

good luck finding the right flywheel other than that the whole swaop is easy hey if you find a 93-97 t56 flywheel that;ll work on a 400 let us know man actually see if the one in summit works cause it is for a 2piece rear main but you have to find what that is balanced right you need either an external balanced flywheel or spend $ at the machine shop to get that thing internally balanced not cheap big headache
