Performance Clutch or Not for a V6?

The last time I bought a clutch for my Bird, I bought whatever cheap-o clutch kit the local auto parts store had and it chattered (The flywheel was turned before installation). Now, I need to take my tranny down because I think the chattering wrecked something and I want to replace the clutch with a decent quality replacement as long as I am there.

The question is: Do I replace it with the RAM OEM replacement clutch or with their Performance (Power-Grip, I think) clutch? The only reason it is RAM is because that is what Summit said they carried for V6s.

The performace one is a lot more expensive but I do not know if it is worth it($135 vs. $300). I do not really race the car ever but I also do not want to have this thing start chattering again.

If I get the cheaper one, does anyone think I might kick myself later for not taking the other one?

Thanks

Dale

I would get the OEM clutch. I had to make the same decision between the two of them a couple weeks ago. I have a T56 with a 350 HO, so I called RAM for info on the two and they told me they were having quality problems with the powergrip. They were both $300, so I got the OEM Ram clutch. It has a better warranty anyway. I haven't driven it yet so I don't know how it'll hold up, though. BTW I've heard that non-kevlar discs last longer in daily driven cars. Just my .02.

Thanks for the reply! I figured I would go with the OEM clutch mainly because with a 140hp V6 I really do not all the "Extra Holding Power" of the other one. I do not need "Quality Problems" either.

I guess buying any clutch from a name brand with a warranty is better than buying a cheap replacement from the local rip-off artists (Auto Parts Stores).

Thanks
