700R4 vs T5

Hi. Got an '87 Z that will be housing my 383. It currently has a 700R4. What kind of work do these tranny's need to hold up to a 383 with TPI? Will just a Trango-shift kit suffice or what has to be done? I am planning on getting a stall for it too.

Also, i hear those T5's are grenades. Is this true or is it that no one around here know's how to peice them together?

The report I've gotten on the T-5 is the input shaft breaks when they are subjected to excessive torque. Doesn't matter is anyone knows how to "piece them together" or not.

I've recently blown my 5th 700r4. I don't have a lot of faith in them. I'm saving my pennies for a ZF conversion...

I have several 10-11 second 700R4's holding up ok. The torque converter is one of the main problems in getting these to last. Setting up the trans correctly with the latest updates helps out tremendously. If you have any questions e-mail me or call 800 7763288 M-S 10-6 PST.
