Re: transmissions
Like James said, a V8 T5 is the best way to go.
That being said, if you're cheap(read
oor) like me, you can make the V6 T5 bolt up. You'll need a V8 bellhousing, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch fork. Either the V6 or V8 throwout bearing will work, but you should probably replace the one you have with a V8 bearing while you have it apart. You'll need a clutch disc from an 82 S15 w/ a 2.8 V6. Part # is CP4201 at Autozone, mine ran me $26 and had to be ordered. The hydraulic linkage will swap over and everything else will line up.
The only thing you need to do to the transmission is to shorten the input shaft by about 1/8", otherwise you will crack the bellhousing while trying to bolt everything together(ask me how I found that out). I recommend grinding a chamfer along the front edge after you trim it so it slides into the pilot bearing/bushing easier.
This setup is not as strong as using a V8 T5 due to the slightly smaller clutch disc size and the lower spline count of the V6 T5's input shaft. If you want to go with a proper 10.5" clutch disch, you can order one from Summit for $88+shipping. Part # is 384161.
