Are All 700R4's The Same?

I've got a 87 GTA w/5.7 TPI 700r4. Last year the trany went so i took it to a shop to fix IT (MINE), Thats not what happened, they replaced it with another 700r4. Since then I've had MANY shifting problems and its gone back 6 TIMES to try to get it right.

So I would like to Know if all 700r4 are the same OR if what I've been told is true...GTAs, IROCs and Corvettes share the same GM 700r4 which has been beefier parts added to it for performence???...I think if there are different versions of 700r4s then they must of use a Basic tranny in my car.....Thankx Guys.

Yeah, basically i was told the valvebody, servo and some springs are different/upgrades on the GTA's, IROC's and Vettes, using GM Performence Parts. I'm Trying to find out if thats true!

they made a big change around 1987. one way to tell is the crossover tube at the valve body

Yes, the governor can be different, the valve body, and servo like you said. They can also be built for high performance or just for stock. Sounds like they used a non-thirdgen 700R4 in your car with the wrong governor setup.
