700r4 v6 to 700r4 v8

i have a 91 rs camaro that had a 3.1 with a 700r4. i am putting in a 305 carb motor with a 700r4 my question is i am leaving the computer and wiring harness in tact and was wondering if the lock up torque convertor would work properly if i just plugged in the cable from the v6 wirring still intact in the car in to the v8 trans

no, because you can't give the V6 computer a bunch of V8 inputs, and without any inputs, it'll never tell the converter to lock. If you're going carbureted, just get an aftermarket lockup kit.

Have to remove the tranny pan and install a new 4th gear solenoid - it's pretty easy to do, they come with great instructions (at least the TCI kit I got did). They are about $90 and they work off vacuum - at the proper vacuum level in 3rd or 4th gear the new solenoid will lock the TC. They also usually have provisions for always on and always off switches that you can add, as the vacuum switch just connects the ground to the solenoid, and you can connect or disconnect this ground with any switch.

Search Torque Converter Lockup for 700R4 on Summit or Jegs.

Re: 700r4 v6 to 700r4 v8

if you do that, you'll be running another 200 rpm higher, give or take. If you have a stock 1500-rpm-stall converter amnd 3.73:1 axle, it's no big deal, but if you have a loose, 2500-stall converter and 2.73:1 gears, you'll burn up the trans. Spend the $90, it'll pay for itself in gas mileage within a year.
