rear end noise when i let off the throttle?

Axle/Gears: 3:42 gears
rear end noise when i let off the throttle?

i changed my center chunk in my 89 to a 3:42 and now when i let off the throttle it makes a whirring sound. it dont do it when im in the throttle at all. maybe the pinion not tourqued enough?

What did you set the backlash to for the gears? Is there any back and forth play in the pinion?

You probably didn't get the pinion depth set right. How did you set the pinion bearing preload?

thanks for the reply! yea i didnt have the pinion tight enough. it had a bit of side to side play. all good now Thanks!
