T56 questions

I have a few questions about my t56 swap. I have an 85 camaro and was wondering how do I swap for a mechanical speed-o on it???? Also I am going to need a stock torque arm mount for it and was wondering if the t56 one is the same as a t5 or 700r4 mount??? Thanks

Re: T56 questions

Mount is the same, i have no idea what to do about the mechanical problem. Think i am going to get a aftermarket speedo gauge and tach and mount them in the stock cluster.

Speedometer Calibration

If you have a 90+ Camaro or an 87+ Firebird you already have an electronically driven speedometer. If not, the transmission's electronic signal has to get converted to a mechanical shaft drive, or the speedometer must be changed to an electrical unit. JTR (Jag's That Run) has a conversion kit available to change the electrical T56 output to a mechanical cable, but unfortunately, it is around $300. Abbot makes a black box that drives a cable speedometer as well, for a few hundred. Auto Meter has an electronically driven speedometer that accept's the VSS signal. I'm using this, along with a few others very succesfully.

Re: T56 questions

Did you read the link I posted?

You either get a converter box (Cable-X, Dakota), Run an aftermarket electronic speedo, or send off the tailhousing and have it modified to accept a mechanical VSS.

So ALLOY is the guy who does them and how does it work, I just send mine off to him and he sends me another in return or he mods the one I got and sends it back.

Re: T56 questions

I mod your housing, I never swap them. Takes about 1 week turn around time. Shoot me a pm and we can discuss it in depth.
