Which rear raito?
Should I run 3.73's or 4.10's, this is a weekend warrior car 80% street 20% strip. I'm running a 700r4 with a 383. I used to get right around 25 mpg with it on the open road (3.08's) but i realize I will drop probably to half that with the 4.10's and just a little higher with the 3.73's. Also which would be stronger of the 2?
I didn't buy this car for the gas mileage but it doesn't hurt having a nice range with the car seeing how i plan to make quite a few car shows all around the state and maybe a long distance trip or 2.
Thanks, Chas

Re: Which rear raito?
The 3.42 is a very popular gear with the 700R4. I wouldn't go past the 3.73 if you plan on driving it a lot. Just remember that you have a 3.06 first gear in that transmission and you don't need a lot of gear in the rear end to make it take off quick.

Re: Which rear raito?
I WOULD GO WITH 3.73 THE 4.10 WILL ONLY INCREASE THE RPM'S A COUPLE HUNDRED BUT THE DIFFERENCE IN FEEL BETWEEN THE TWO IS PROBABLY NOT ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY THE 4.10'S. I HAD 2.73 IN MINE AND CHANGED TO 3.42. I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE WITH THE 700R4, BUT IM GLAD I TALKED MYSELF OUT OF 3.73. THE 3.42 IS PLENTY WITH THE 1ST GEAR IN THE 700R4. THE HWY RPMS ARE BEARABLE. AND BY STRONGER YOU MEAN THE GEARS DURABILITY THEMSELVES IM SURE IT WOULD BE THE SAME. THE GEARS ARE MADE FROM THE SAME STOCK.

Re: Which rear raito?
ok thats what i figured strength wise. Alright so one 3.73 and one 3.42. Out of those 2 gears which is gonna give me better 60' times? I'm guessing the 3.42's so i can keep it in first gear longer and won't shift before the 60'.
Am I right?
Am I right?
Re: Which rear raito?
wow got to be honest i dont know about that. i can only speak for the street manners of the gearing. i dont take my car to the track. but if i were to bet i would think you would be right on the 3.42 for the 60' time. if the 3.73 rev so high in first that you have to shift b4 the 60' that would make perfect sense. good luck.
