trans swap

I have a 1992 k1500 it had a 5spd in it and it was bad. I can't drive manual for long distences anyway so I'm changing to an automatic (700r4). I've already got the trans in with the new drivshafts. Ive got everything done but the torque converter lock up. I've got it set up for manual lockup but I dont like it. My question is can I run the lock up through the computer. the trans has 3 wires tan\black, Lt blue, and purple.
I think that the tan\Blk should go to the A7 pin on the computer (shift light). purple to 12v or C7 pin. and Lt blue to brake switch. but I'm not sure and don't want to mess this trans up.

Re: trans swap

You can always go with an aftermarket lockup kit. I've got the B&M kit in mine, and it works wonders. I like it a lot better than the factory rig.

Re: trans swap

I thought about an aftermarket but I didnt want to put much more money in this truck its only a plow truck. I only use it in the winter. I'm sure its not gona get me to many more years. I just dont want to buy a new one yet (thinkin bout movin to warm weather).

Re: trans swap

Honestly, if that's all you use it for, there's no need for a lockup converter. It only really comes into benefit at highway speeds, and when it does lock up, all it really does is cool off the transmission and improve gas mileage. I don't think it's going to burn up the transmission if you just use it for running around and plowing. Factory lockup only works in fourth gear anyways.

Re: trans swap

wouldn't it cool the trans better in between jobs. I've got a cooler on the trans but I don't want it to build up to much heat. This trans is gona get hot when plowing.
