need help 700r4

Car: 87 iroc, 91 rs
Engine: 350 worked, 305
Transmission: 5 speed zbar setup. auto
Axle/Gears: 3:73 gears. stock
need help 700r4
Ok guys i just bought an 85 z28 305 auto. The guy who had it before me said the rear locked up so he rebuilt it with 3:73s. The car rolls in nuetral still but he said theres something in the back of the tranny covered by a plastic cover that needs to be replaced. He said it costs like a dollar and it goes in the tailshaft of the tranny or something like that. The tranny can stay in car but driveshaft has to be removed. He said like a speed govener or something like that. I have no clue what hes talkin bout but hopefully you guys do. Thanks. Im a ford guy so this 3rd gen stuff is new for me. Please help me

no idea whats he is talking about. no plastic covers on a 700r4, nothing goes in before the driveshaft. the speedo parts have nothing to do with the car rolling.
i assume he is talking about the speedo gears to correct the speedometer after the gear swap. There are two gears, one on the output shaft and one in the speed senser. To change the one on the output shaft, you have to remove the driveshaft and remove the torque arm and tail section. the one is the sender just comes out the side of the trans, i think iots one bolt. they cost more than a dollar for the gears, a dollor is a silly price to quote.
as for Ford/chevy they both have speed sensors and gears, only a difference is design not function.

i wish i could be more helpful with what exactly is going on. I will find out more on wednsday or even before hopefully. He said it needs some kind of gear for the car to drive or the gear turned a certain way. Im trying to find out more.
