Clutch suggestions please!

For an LT1 T56. I've been looking around, but haven't found anything people consistently suggest. Any thoughts? And please keep it under $1000! That's just sick. Probably 500hp MAX and occasionally track time. I'd just like something that I won't have to change every 3 months.

This guy here had a ton of problems:

Centerforce?
McLeod?
Ram?

Thanks guys.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

The guy from the link above suggested spec because it's what ultimately worked for him.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

I use the Autozone LT4 Pressure Plate and a McLeod clutch disc. Saved a couple hundred $ and I got the idea here. The clutch grips well and the PP is lifetime warranty!

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

Great idea! How's it hold up to moderate abuse and some track time? Thanks!

Haven't been to the track yet, but I get on it like I'm at a drag strip every now and then, and it's held up to the abuse.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

So the wiki on GM LT4 engines says the LT4 was available in the 96 vette, 97 Camaro, and 97 firebird (firehawk). Yet the clutch for the vette is $100 more expensive than the camaro/firebird one even though they have the same trans right? Typical vette markup of the same ****?!

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

Since autozone doesn't give you an LT1 and LT4 option I think the camaro/firebird PP is actually only for the LT1 cars.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

bummer there isn't as big of a cluth selection for the LT1 crowd. You'd think they'd be a bit more popular since they're a more direct swap to older sbc's than an LS1 T-56.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

I think there's a pretty good selection, I just want to know which is ACTUALLY the LT4 pressure plate. I have suspicion it's the vette one not the camaro/firebird one.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

The Autozone NU31265 clutch kit posted above has the LT4 PP. The differences between the LT1 and LT4 PP can be seen here. And I posted pics of the clutch kit here.

Re: Clutch suggestions please!

Awesome, but I'm still curious what the difference is in the vette PP is. Also I found the McLeod disk for $172.89 shipped.

The LT4 PP really is the same as any aftermarket PP!
