should i buy??
Well i ran into a man parting out this iroc he said hes not sure what the differental gears are put he is sure ita a posi..so i jacked the car up and both tires spun forward so im sure its a posi...he said he will take 60 for it since he does not know what gears are in it...should i buy it?
Re: should i buy??
If this is the original rer end in the car and if the RPO tag is still in it you can check the gear ratio by the tag. GU3 is a 2.73, GU4 is a 3.08, GU5 is a 3.23, GU6 is a 3.42 and GT4 is a 3.73. G80 is the code for the limited slip (posi) differential. The tag will usually be stuck on the bottom of the console lid or behind the spare tire cover.

The guts may have been changed out also. Some are stamped on the right side of the axle housing also with the axle codes. I havent been lucky enough to find my code but luckily the diff tag was still on the cover. Is it a 9 bolt BW or a 10 bolt? 60 doesnt sound like a bad price as long as its still good.
Re: should i buy??
How do you feel about paying $60 for a posi 2.77 or 2.73 rear end? If it's worth it to you, then sure, buy it and figure out what it is later. On the other hand, you might want to take 15 minutes to pop the cover and read the numbers stamped in the edge of the ring gear. It'll either be the exact ratio or a count of the teeth. Divide the numbers and you'll have the exact ratio. $60 is a lot for a boat anchor.

You can easily take a good guess. spin the tire and watch how many times the yoke/drive shaft turns.
Can give ya good guess.
If its 410, 1 spin of the tire should turn the yoke a bit more then 4 times
