Do i have a stall?

I think the previous owner put in a stall converter way to high for the car.

I know my car is in good mechanical condition (brand new fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap rotor etc...), and my tranny does NOT slip.

My car feels like it has a lack of power from 0-3K rpm. After 3K it just takes off like crazy.

If im stopped, and floor it, i cant get the tires to spin (They will chirp). However, if i power brake, i can get the tires to roast like crazy.

Do i have a stall?

Re: Do i have a stall?

That would be a symptom of the stall speed of the converter being too low, not too high.

Re: Do i have a stall?

Can you explane? I really dont know much about high stall TC's.

From what i gathered, for example if i had a 3000 stall converter, doesnt that mean at 3000 rpms all the engines power will be transfered to the trans?

When the car hits 3000rpm and takes off, isnt that where the TC is locking up?

If it it was too low, then it would present the symptoms i have stated?

Sorry to sound like a noob, but all the performance cars i have driven, except this on have been manual trans.

Re: Do i have a stall?

I have a 3K stall now and have bigger before. Basically, a stall converter works to get the motor to a higher rpm quicker for launches. For example, my stall wont move the car until about 1800 rpm. In between 1800 and around 3200 in my example because mine is a bit loose, the plates inside the converter prevent full power transmission from the motor to the trans so its feels "sloppy" and it wants to rev quickly when giving it even a little gas but cruises normal. Like yours, when power braking, mine will roast the tires through right into third gear and unlike yours however, when just flooring it, mine will spin the tires into second gear. By how you describe how yours is, I dont you think you have a stall. You more than likely have something else wrong like perhaps dirty injectors or a lazy o2 sensor,or something the ecm is trying to compensate for. The other thing is, the tcc wont lock up unless its in fourth(maybe third in some) and cruising. When open throttle, the tcc is unlocked
