TV cable woes
i have a 350 TPI 85 camaro
after a trans died on me, i thought it would be a good idea to get a correctly functioning TV cable for the new trans.
i bought a TV cable from Advanced Auto and went to put it in.
when it came time to adjust it, i ran into a problem.
here is the procedure i followed:
connect cable to TV assy and bolt to transmission
push "clip" thru the throttle bracket and attach the other end of the cable to the throttle
push the button to bring the cable to its shortest length, ie, away from the firewall
push the gas pedal to the floor.
the cable went click click click just like it should, but then something weird happened.
turns out the throttle travel is greater than the cable travel, and the adjuster "clicked" past the end of the adjustment and fell out.
I thought that maybe my TV assy was simply too tight, so i manually pulled the cable to where its maximum extension was, and tried to clip it to the throttle, but sure enough, its about 1/8" too short.
its as if i have a 1/8" throttle body spacer pulling the throttle farther away from the bracket... but i dont.
thinking that the cable was a dud, i brought it back and got another.

Re: TV cable woes
It's possible that they're giving you the wrong one. I dunno if it's the same where you are, but around here they seem determined to hire the dumbest people they can find. I wouldn't be surprised if they heard you say "TBI" instead of "TPI".
A couple thing to check, though. Are you adjusting the TV cable manually or with the gas pedal? If you're doing it manually, is it possible to over-rotate the throttle shaft beyond WOT?
I would take the cable back for a refund, then go to another store (preferrably a smaller shop that knows what they're doing), and bring the old cable for comparison's sake.

try the same technique with the adjuster slightly longer [not shorter]
and open the throttle by hand
it's about the same price @ GM....why get it from K MART autoparts
if that does not work!!! take it back!!!!

Re: TV cable woes
ill check if its the right cable i guess one more time.
what i am saying is that the cable doesnt have enough travel to make it to WOT.
i run out of "clicks"
no matter where the adjuster is, i get the same thing
