How much can the 700r4 withstand?
I have the stock 700r4. How much Horsepower and torque can it handle without being modified or swapped out (#s?).

If it doesn't stand much over stock would i need to upgrade it and if so what would i upgrade it with (kit wise?).
Or, If i should upgrade to a better transmission what should it be and how much can it withstand? Be it mind i don't want to upgrade to a manual.
Thanks,
Sean

Cant really put a number on it, varies on mileage, torque, abuse, etc. Mine went out just below 400hp.
IMO, dont mess with it until it goes out. Then do a good rebuild.
Transgo kit might help prolong the life some. Main thing is to make sure the TV cable is always set correctly.
When the time comes to upgrade, rebuild, or buy a new one, call Dana at Pro Built Automatics

Also I would keep with the 700r4. The right components installed can make it a strong reliable trans with overdrive.

Dana's definitely the man to talk to when the time comes to rebuild/upgrade it. He offers street/strip kits that'll hold up to 650 HP and other kits that hold even higher if you're really building something crazy. Thread
