so i just bought my first real car it is a 91 camaro rs. i droped in an old 350 and 700r4. and i took a peak at the ham in the back and i dont have posi. i was gunna buy a set of gears and posi from my bud but there out of a 85 monte ss. he says they are the smae rear ends but i dont know. and what is the deal with the crush collar on the pinnon gear do i buy a new one, use the the old one, and how do i tourqe it?

Yes, the gears will swap, but the differential will not swap. Your car has 28 spline axles and his car has 26 spline axles. There is a lot more to settin up a set of gears than getting the crush spacer right. If you don't know how to set the pinion bearing preload with the crush spacer then you have a lot more to lear than that. You must know how to set the pinion depth, bearing preload on the pinion and the differential, and set the backlash. You also must know how to read the contact pattern so that you will know what adjustments need to be made to the pinion depth and backlash. There are a few special tools needed to do the job. And yes, you will need a new spacer, and pinion nut at the very least. I recommend a complete installation kit. I also recommend getting a new Eaton Posi and forget about using a used GM installed differential. The only limited slip differentials that GM installed in these rear ends were the Governor Lock and Auburn. Neither one is worth a crap.
