Rear end makes noise while coasting

Im pretty sure its the rear axle but when i am driving and let off the gas i hear a whine/humming coming from the back of the car, as soon as i step on the gas the sound goes away, is it indeed the rear axle? and if so what is causing it and how do i fix it?
thanks

Re: Rear end makes noise while coasting

pull it apart and see what the problem is. look for gear wear, bearing wear, loose parts.
