700r4 or th400

ok i was lazy to search to be honest.

is there any pro to get a 700r4 built to support 500hp and 100 shot?

should i just wash my hands and by a new th400?

th400 is gonna cost around 1300$, will 1300$ into a 700r4 withstand the power? only asking because am running 4:11's and now the cars getting put together am worried with only 3 speeds i might regret the gear ratio that my rear has

Re: 700r4 or th400

IS the car much of a street car cruiser? Then I'd go with the 700r4. Overdrive and lockup converter is your friend for street driving.

If not, go with Th400. It has better gear ratio spread.

700r4 can handle the power. Mine was rebuilt with a upgraded kit and i was spraying a 150 shot on top of my 400whp 383.

700r4's steeper first gear will leave the line abit harder than the Th400. That could also be a good thing.

If you will be spraying off the line alot, the 700r4 will need to be built pretty strong to take the repeated abuse.

Re: 700r4 or th400

not a daily driver, maybe 200 miles a month and hoping an occasional trip to my moms ( 236 miles ) one way. Not worried about gas prices or mpg as am sure ill be at 5 if am lucky :P

This year it wont be a track car or nitrouse off the line as i have to baby the rear, its built, but its not "built built" lol my main concern is RPM on the highway with 3 gears and 4:11.

I guess what am getting at would be can i build a 700r4 with 3k stall for same amount it would cost a mild build th400 and still be as reliable for when it does goto the track with stickies

500hp at standard thirdgen weight should be a mid 11 second car, trapping 116-118 mph. With 26" tall tire, 118mph is 6270 rpm with no converter slip. With slip, thats anywhere from 6490 to 6770 with slip from 3.5 to 8%.

Not bad for a n/a motor that peaks in the 6200-6400 rpm range. If thats where your motor peaks at.

When you hit it with a 100 shot, you will trap closer to 126. With those gears that would require about 6700 rpm no slip. With same slip of the converter thats 6935 to 7236 rpm. That may be too much with the spray.

A 28" tall tire would give 6216 rpm no slip, with say 8% slip thats 6700 rpm. Again, not bad if you peak in the mid lower 6000 rpm range.

I think 3.73's would be abit better suited with a 26-27" tire for nitrous use.

For highway cruise, the Th400 would sit at 3450 rpm at 65 mph with 4.11 gear and 26" tire. 28" is 3207 rpm.
3.73's with 26" tire is 3134 rpm at 65mph cruise.

700r4 with 26" tire and overdrive with 4.11 gears puts 65mph at 2417 rpm and thats locked up converter. Thats a HUGE advantage over the TH400. Much nicer cruise rpm for long trip. For 286 miles, I'd go overdrive. High rpms that long will heat that tranny way to much.

The 700r4 is more than capable of handling 600hp from a 100 shot nitrous 383 if your not abusing it off the line that much.
