Another 700R4 Quest/problem not shifting out of first
Hello I was wondering if someone can help me out with my 700R4 problem. Ok it started about a couple of weeks ago. I went into my car to drive it( stock 89 Camaro TBI 305 no mods) and it would not get out of gear it would not not shift at all. ran up to about 3Krpms and nothing no shifting at all...so limped the car home driving under 20mph since it would not go any faster then that. Checked fluid = brown ,burnt clutches. Went and got another from the Junk yard. Drained that tranny refilled with new fluid, filter, gasket. Purchased new TV cable hooked that up the correct way...got in car and drove and the exact same problem happend? So now im really dumbfunded can two different trannys have exactly the same problem? and what do you think can cause this? I have reverse, neutral, park and drive. Linkage is set up correctly...so I am not sure? Can you please help because I have to get this done and only have the 30day warranty with the junkyard...so time is ticking on me. Thanks for all your help.

hmm you think this can happen to two different tranny's? Should I just take the one back I got from the junkyard? or should I hook up the transgauge to check the pressure? I want to make sure this tranny is bad before taking it out and putting another in its a PITA...can I use the gauge to check at the junkyard if I do get another from them? or does it have to be hooked up to the car to use the pressure gauge?

from what i hear, it's a common problem. Did you properly adjust the tv cable when you put in the tranny?
Just pull out the governor and look at it. There's tons of info on line on doing that, and it's pretty damn easy. You dont even have to pull the tranny.

Yes I did properly adjust the TV cable...hmm I will have to take a look at the govenor then on the tranny...I just thought it was strange two diff tranny's having the same problem..is there anything computer controlled besides the TCC?
Re: Another 700R4 Quest/problem not shifting out of first
And no, nothing is computer controlled in that year other than the tcc.

ok since it might or might not be the govenor I want to get a tranny gauge and hook it up first before buying anything else. Does anyone know the correct spot to hook up the gauge to on the 700R4? and also if the govenor is bad what kinda of PSI will I be looking at? Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

It's probably the easiest thing you can do to a tranny besides pulling the dipstick to check the fluid.
