T56 Rebuild

Transmissions are the only part of a car I don't understand, and I have no desire to want to try and rebuild one. Just seems like too big of a risk.

With that said, my 100k mile T56 needs a rebuild. 3rd gear is getting progressively more difficult to shift into, and 4th makes some light grinding noises at higher RPM while in gear. 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th all seem perfectly fine. What are my options for a rebuild, how much, and where? I'd like to keep the budget to the lower side of things, but I don't want to cheap out on stuff either. Help is appreciated, thanks.

Re: T56 Rebuild
Well I'm about 4hrs south of you if you want to drive down for a road trip.. ;-)

There are a couple shops that do mail-order rebuilds, or you can find a trans shop in your area and just order parts.

Re: T56 Rebuild
If you were to cut me a deal on labor, I'd be more than happy to roadtrip it up and spend a few days in MD.

I have looked at buying parts from thegearbox.com before - seems like a good site. I just need to know what I should get beforehand and have someone build it for me.
