dropping transmission
my 700r4 is falling apart, every time i fix something, something else goes wrong with it, the PO put that grey gasket maker stuff all over it, so its pretty much held together with the stuff, so i decided to just pull the whole thing out, rebuild it, pull off all the epoxied stuff on it, and put it back together the way it should. My question is how hard would it be to drop the tranny if i had the car jacked up on jack stands.... about 2 feet off the ground, anyone have a guide that i can follow? thanks

Re: dropping transmission
do a search, its not that bad. It can be done with a couple of tools. Now rebuilding it is another question.

Re: dropping transmission
Its not bad to do. Just get a floor jack to hold it up while you unbolt crossmember. Try and get rear tires off the ground too because it makes taking the torque arm off real easy otherwise it will be in a bind and you cant move it. You will also need about a 2ft extension and swivel to get the top transmission housing bolts out. Get them after you get all the attachments off the transmission you might want to get torque converter first before you unhook driveshaft.

Re: dropping transmission
just finished dropping my 700r4-jacked the car about 2'
up in the air, supported on stands, removed D/S and TQ
arm mount, removed all cables and lines ETC,unbolted
torque converter, removed upper 4 bellhousing bolts-
(i have got the upper 2bolts from above before, but this
time put a universal on the socket, put 3 extensions
together and got them from over and behind the tranny)
supported the engine under the pan with a scissor jack,
rolled my big lincoln trolley jack under the tranny pan
lifted it a bit,took out the last 2 bolts,dropped x-memb
lowerd down tranny, drug off jack, drug out from under
